Expanding Our Welcome

Expanding Our Welcome is a group at CVLC dedicated to creating a more welcoming, inclusive, and affirming church community for our LGBTQ+ neighbors. Through education, conversation, fellowship, and special events, we hope to build a church where everyone knows they are valued, welcomed, and invited to be part of our community.

We’re excited to continue learning, growing, and finding new ways to extend Christ’s welcome to our LGBTQ+ neighbors and friends. Keep an eye out for future Expanding Our Welcome events and opportunities to get involved! 🌈

Movie and Pie Night

Join us on Friday, August 21, from 6:00–9:30 PM for a special Movie & Pie Night hosted by Expanding Our Welcome!

We’ll begin the evening with pie at 6:00 PM, followed by a screening of 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Cultureat 6:30 PM. The film has a runtime of approximately 90 minutes, and afterward we’ll gather for a short time of discussion and questions. 1946 explores the history behind the first known appearance of the word “homosexual” in an English Bible translationand examines how a translation decision in 1946 helped shape the way LGBTQ+ people and Scripture have been understood in the decades since. The documentary brings together historians, scholars, and people of faith to explore questions of biblical interpretation, language, and the experiences of LGBTQ+ Christians. This evening is an opportunity to learn, listen, ask questions, and grow as allies to the LGBTQ+ community. Whether you are already familiar with these conversations or are simply curious and hoping to learn more, all are welcome. Come enjoy some pie, watch the film with us, and join in a thoughtful conversation about faith, Scripture, and what it means to create a more welcoming community.
